Enterprise Multi-Layer Reference Architecture For Digital Banking
High-Level System Partitioning and Integration
This document outlines the standard four-tier model used in modern banking. The Presentation Layer manages omnichannel consistency across mobile, web, and IoT.
The Orchestration Layer (or Middleware) serves as the "brain," managing complex workflows such as loan approvals or cross-border transfers.
The Service Layer houses granular business logic via microservices, while the Data & Core Layer interfaces with the legacy General Ledger and Transaction Processing Systems (TPS). By decoupling these layers, banks can update their user interface or add new fintech integrations without risking the stability of the underlying core banking engine.
